Sandbox

This past weekend (October 18 2008) I spent the better part of Saturday digging up an 8′x10′ sandbox. My parents have been do-it-yourselfers since forever and my Dad built this sandbox for me and my sisters roughly 30 years ago. Per Dad, I removed all of the flagstone, cinder blocks (2 deep all the way around), and artifacts (only a plastic cup and a plastic lid to a toy milk bottle. Was also some random glass and a porcelain conductor thing for an electrical or phone thing). What was really interesting is that I’m now the age he was when he built it.

We were discussing what was easier – putting it together or taking it apart. He seems to think that both were about equal but putting it together just took more time. My Dad, and engineer, is a very meticulous and exacting individual. The way the flagstone and cinder blocks were laid were so accurate and precise. The design was so structurally sound that, after all these years of environmental effects, the sandbox held it’s shape perfectly. The guy is a master at so many things.

A very cathartic experience indeed. You can click on teh picture to see pictures of us and the sandbox.
